Puerto Rico’s Valeria Vazquez wins Miss Supranational 2018

KRYNICA-ZDROJ, POLAND – After weeks of tough competition, the stunning Miss Puerto Rico was crowned as Miss Supranational 2018 on the 10th-anniversary of the pageant and coronation night held in the majestic mountain resort of Krynica-Zdroj, Poland.

Dressed in a form-fitting ivory and silver strapless gown, Valeria Vazquez, a 24-year-old Medical Technology student bested seventy-one other candidates from all over the world in a night filled with music, suspense and fun.

USA’s representative Katrina Jayne Dimaranan was hailed first runner-up and Poland’s Magdalena Bienkowska was proclaimed second runner-up. Indonesia’s pride Wilda Octaviana Situngkir finished third-runner up and Diana Romero of Mexico completed the top 5 as she was placed fourth runner-up.

Commemorating the 10th anniversary, the show begins with the introduction of past title holders of Miss Supranational who were also tasked to judge the whole event. Panel of judges include the nine Supranational queens: Ukraine’s Oksana Moria (2009), Panama’s Karina Pinilla (2010), Poland’s Monika Lewczuk (2011), Belarus’ Ekaterina Buraya (2012), Philippines’ Mutya Datul (2013), India’s Asha Bhat (2014), India’s Srinidhi Shetty (2016), and the outgoing Miss Supranational from Korea Jenny Kim (2017).

During the first round of the competition, the judges announced nine contestants with the Best National Dress Contest. The winners were: Miss Mexico, Miss Russia, Miss Korea, Miss Vietnam, Miss Guatemala, Miss Laos, Miss Indonesia, Miss Panama, and Miss Haiti.

As the competition ensued, the girls dress up in beautiful midnight blue monokinis and wraparounds who looked jaw-drop gorgeous in the swimsuit round. Shortly after, the Top 25 contestants are announced and they were Venezuela, Belarus, Russia, Mauritius, Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Ecuatorial Guinea, Philippines, Ukraine, Slovak Republic, USA, India, Australia, Mexico, Pakistan, Romania, Vietnam, Malaysia, Nigeria, Denmark, Indonesia, Colombia, Brazil, Poland, and Myanmar.

After the tight battle onstage, the girls who made it to the Top 10 are Miss United States, Miss Romania, Miss Puerto Rico, Miss Brazil, Miss Indonesia, Miss Poland, Miss Mexico, Miss Vietnam, Miss Philippines, and Miss Venezuela. They competed in evening gowns of their choice.

Subsequently, Mexico, USA, Poland, Indonesia, and Puerto Rico advanced to the Top 5 of the competition wherein they were asked individual questions.

Miss Supranational 2018 Continental winners were also awarded after the show and these are: Brazil’s Barbara Reis as Miss Supranational 2018 America, Vietnam’s Minh Tu Nguyen as Miss Supranational 2018 Asia, Mauritius’ Marie Anoushka Ah Keng as Miss Supranational 2018 Africa, Romania’s Andreea Maria Coman as Miss Supranational 2018 Europe, Suriname’s Shimara Jap as Miss Supranational 2018 Caribbeans and Australia’s Maddison-Clare Sloane as Miss Supranational 2018 Oceania.

Other special awards were also given. USA’s Katrina Jayne Dimaranan bagged Miss Body, Singapore’s Priyanka Annuncia was awarded Miss Congeniality, Belgium’s Dhenia Covens was given Miss Elegance and Venezuela’s Nariman Battikha took home Miss Photogenic award.

The nine candidates were also chosen by the queens as winners of Best in National Costume: Mexico, Guatemala, Russia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Laos, Panama, Haiti and Korea.
