A 28-year-old personal trainer and male model from Dorset had made history as the first amputee to make it to the finals of the Mr England competition – and win the title.
Jack Eyers, who had his right leg amputated at the age of 16, bested 24 other contestants during the finals held July 14 at Resorts World Birmingham. He will now represent England in the next edition of the Mr World pageant. He was also awarded Mister Popularity.
“It’s such a huge platform from which to act as a role model in the media and promote diversity in modelling,” Eyers said in an interview with Sunday Express in April.
Eyers was born with the degenerative condition Proximal Femoral Focal Deficiency (PFFD) which causes a deformed hip and a shortened leg. He was forced to wait until the leg had stopped growing when he was 16 to have it removed.
He was the first disabled person to take the catwalk at the New York Fashion Week two years ago. He has also appeared in campaigns for online fashion retailer Boohoo, Tango, Barclays, the charity Scope, and was crowned Men’s Health’s Man of the Year.
Jack Heslewood and Zac Oldershaw were first and second runner-up, respectively.
