Sofia Marrero will represent the South American nation of Uruguay at the 2018 Miss Universe competition in December in Bangkok, Thailand.
The 18-year-old model from Barros Blancos was selected in a casting call held last month.
“I am very happy and grateful to be able to represent my country in a contest as important as Miss Universe,” Marrero said. “It’s really a dream come true, as a child I never missed a Miss Universe program and now having the opportunity to be there is incredible.”
