Rumors are swirling all over the grapevine as a reported big news will soon be revealed today. According to press information, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach is in town to make a huge announcement. While the details are yet to be revealed, it is rumored that the Miss Universe 2016 contest will be held in the Philippines.
Paula Shugart, the President of the Miss Universe organization, hinted that this could indeed happen. “For years, I’ve talked about someday having the pageant here. I do know with Pia right now, the entire worldwide focus is on the Philippines. I think it’s a great opportunity. I would love to be able to make it work. We’ll see,” she said during an interview with the Philippine TV station ABS-CBN last January. “We have new owners that came in in October. All we did is we focused on let’s get the show on and we’ll talk and now they are seeing things. When I go back, we’ll figure all that out. I keep my fingers crossed. This might be the right year,”
The Philippines hosted the Miss Universe pageant twice – in 1974 and in 1994. Analysts say that the 20 year cycle should have seen the country hosting the 2014 pageant. Instead, no Miss Universe pageant was held in 2014, the first time in history that it skipped a year. The 2014 edition was held in January 2015 in Doral, Florida.
If indeed true, then the Miss Universe 2016 pageant will definitely be met with hyper-charged enthusiasm. After all, the Filipinos are one of the passionate fans of the pageant. And as the 1974 and 1994 editions could attest, Miss Universe in the Philippines is like a one huge fiesta!
