Estefania Soto Torres, who finished first runner-up in last year’s Miss Universe Puerto RIco pageant, was crowned Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2020 in a special ceremony held September 24.

The 27-year-old beauty will represent the island in the next edition of Miss Universe. She succeeds outgoing queen Madison Anderson, who placed first runner-up in Miss Universe 2019.

“I am humbled by the opportunity of carrying this golden emerald crown,” Soto posted on Instagram shortly after she was crowned. “Representing my country and my people on a platform with great potential to further social change is a responsability I cherish with all my heart.”

Soto holds a master’s degree in intercultural mediation from the University of Louvain in Belgium. She worked for a European organization in Brussels and for the French embassy in Washington, DC.

The Miss Universe Puerto Rico announced in July that they would not hold a pageant this year due to the coronavirus pandemic and instead decided to appoint last year’s runner-up.

Puerto Rico bagged the Miss Universe crown five times, most recently in 2006 with Zuleyka Rivera. It currently ranks 15th in Missosology Big5 Ranking. Missosology.Org; Photos from Miss Universe Puerto Rico page
