The southern Italian town of Gallipoli in the region of Puglia witnessed the crowning of Rebecca Arnone who hails from far north. She represented the Valle d’Aosta Region although she hails from nearby Piedmont city of Turin. Initially 50 women from across Italy were subjected to a series of challenges including sports, Top Model, and the group sessions called Head to Head Challenge. Then the Top 25 were chosen days before the finals night was held.
Rebecca Arnone is 20 years of age and she is a biology student at the University of Turin. “My will is to succeed in showbiz and therefore I really want to thank Miss World Italy Organization for giving me such a huge opportunity,” she said after being crowned. “I am so thrilled about representing my country at Miss World, it’s a great honor for me”.
To date, no Italian woman has ever won the Miss World crown. The closest that Italy got to a winner was Giorgia Palmas who finished as first runner-up in 2000.
