Cartagena’s Valeria Ayos was crowned Miss Universe Colombia 2021 in glittering finale held October 18 at the Chamorro City Hall in Bogotá.
The 27-year-old international relations professional and former Miss Earth Water bested 23 other finalists for the title. She will represent the nation at the 70th Miss Universe competition in Eilat, Israel in December. She suceeded 2020 titleholder Laura Olascuaga.
Former Miss World Colombia and Reina Hispanoamericana 2013 Maria Alejandra López (Risaralda) placed first runner-up. and Bolivar’s Franselys Santoya finished second runners-up.
A familiar face in the pageant world, Ayos previously represented Colombia at the 2018 Miss Earth competition in the Philippines and finished as Miss Earth Water. She was supposed to represent San Andres at Miss Universe Colombia 2020 but has to withdraw from the contest after testing positive for Covid-19.
