Tamara Dal Maso has been named Señorita Costa Rica 2021 and will now represent the Central American nation in Miss World 2021.

The 22-year-old model replaces Señorita Costa Rica 2020 Andrea Montero as Costa Rica’s delegate to the 70th Miss World contest to be held in December in Puerto Rico.

Del Maso “was selected from among four candidates who met all the requirements requested by the international organization Miss World,” Concurso Nacional de Belleza (CNB) Costa Rica said in a statement. An official crowning ceremony will be held in the coming days.

No stranger to pageants, Dal Maso represented Costa Rica at the 2019 Miss International beauty pageant in Japan.

In another statement, CNB said Montero “will not travel to the 70th edition of Miss World due to the impossibility of managing her visa to enter the United States.”

“As an emergency measure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, ordered a freeze on the issuance of all international tourist visas, which made it impossible to achieve an exception for our reigns despite different efforts.

“In conjunction with the Miss World organization, we decided that the delegate representing our country in the 70th edition should be one of the candidates who have already been chosen for the 2022 edition of Miss Costa Rica.”
