Asya Branch of Mississippi was crowned Miss USA 2020 during the finals held November 9 at Elvis Presley’s Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee, making history as the first from her state to win the coveted Miss USA crown.

The 22-year-old entreprenuer from Booneville bested 50 other candidates for the new Mouawad crown, including first runner-up Kim Layne of Idaho, second runner-up Mariah Jane Davis of Oklahoma, third runner-up Alexis Lete of Indiana, and fourth runner-up Kelly Hutchinson of Alabama.

Branch received the crown from last year’s winer Cheslie Kryst, who now holds the record for the longest reign as Miss USA.

Aside from becoming the first Miss Mississippi to win Miss USA, Branch also made history as the first African-American Miss Mississippi USA. She will now head on to compete in the next edition of the Miss Universe competition.
