Somalia debuted at Miss World last year and it immediately made history after its candidate, Khadija Omar, became the first hijabi to make it to Top 13 of the Miss World pageant. For the 71st Miss World pageant, Somalia will be represented by Bahja Mahamoud. The official social media accounts of Miss World Somalia organization has released the following announcement:

22 year old Finance, Pre-Medicine student and entrepreneur, Bahja Mohamoud is Miss World Somalia 2022. She grew up with a very early passion for medicine, mental health awareness and education, with a particular interest in healthcare within the Somali community. Her first business was a chemical dependency clinic that had the goal of reducing the stigma of mental health conditions and co-occurring drug addiction in her community when she was only 18. Bahja’s hobbies include swimming, boating, piano, violin, volunteering at animal shelters & cooking every cuisine under the sun.

Her beauty with a purpose project aims at launching her own health foundation and medical clinic in her hometown; Beledweyne, Somalia, a remote village that lacks medical access, This goal will be achieved by utilizing a network of medical practitioners via Telehealth and rotational assignments.
