ADRIANA Paniagua of Chinandega was crowned the new Miss Nicaragua during the glittering finale held March 24 at the Rubén Darío National Theater in Managua.
Paniagua, 22, bested 12 other candidates for the right to represent the country in the next edition of the Miss Universe pageant. She receieved the crown from last year’s winner, Berenice Quezada.
“This, I owe everything to Nicaragua and my family,” Paniagua was quoted by La Prensa moments after winning the title. She also bagged the lion’s share of special awards, including Best Face, and Miss Personality. Paniagua’s national costume, designed by Alfonso Pascua, also won the Best National Costume award.
Ingger Zepeda placed first runner-up, while Alejandra Pereira was second runner-up. Laura Ramirez and Sara Belen Espinales finished third and fourth runners-up, respectively.
No stranger to pageants, Paniagua won Miss Teen International in 2011. In 2013, she was chosen in a casting to represent Nicaragua in Miss World but she declined the title days after.
This year’s Miss Nicaragua also gave emphasis to women empowerment. After parading in swimwear, the 13 candidates came out on stage with placards showing statements against violence against women in the country. Missosology.Org
