History was made when Marina Machete was crowned as Miss Universe Portugal 2023. She will be etched in history as the first ever transgender to win the prestigious national crown. Marina is 28 years of age and works as a cabin crew. She was crowned in a pageant held in the town of Borba which is located in southeast Portugal.
Marina Machete and Rikkie Kolle of the Netherlands are currently two transgenders that will soon compete for the Miss Universe 2023 title. In 2018, Angela Ponce who represented Spain became the first transgender to compete at Miss Universe.
Portugal is yet to win the Miss Universe crown. Their last year’s contestant, Team Madeira, made it to the Top 16.
