As former Miss International New Zealand and Miss Teen South Pacific, Jessica Tyson added another feather to her cap.

Twenty-five year old Jessica Tyson bagged the Miss World New Zealand 2018 title and thus earned the right to represent her country at the Miss World 2018 pageant which will be held in Sanya, China. The finals will be on December 8. Jessica is a Maori TV presenter and belongs to Te Atihaunui-ā-Pāpārangi iwi (tribe). She is currently residing in Auckland and is studying Bachelor of Communication Studies at the Auckland University of Technology.

A total of eleven contestants participated in this year’s Miss World New Zealand pageant. Jessica who stands 5’8″ admitted that she was still nervous participating in the pageant despite having solid experience. “I’m feeling really nervous. I’ve done this before many times but it doesn’t stop me from feeling nervous,” she says.

Jessica will face a Herculean task later this year. Miss World is yet to crown a Kiwi (New Zealander) beauty queen. However, there were two Kiwi beauties who almost got it – Elaine Miscall in 1963 and Lauralee Martinovich in 1997. Still, with solid support from the organizers and her family, Jessica expressed her optimism that this year, a New Zealand beauty will finally win that elusive crown.
