The 21 year old from Quetzaltenango will represent Guatemala at the Miss Universe 2022 pageant later this year. She was crowned in a finals night held at the Miguel Angel Asturias Cultural Center in Guatemala City. The pageant night was a feast of colors and culture thanks to the participation of Ballet Folklórico del Instituto Guatemalteco de Turismo, the National Choir of Guatemala and the Marimba de Conciertos de Bellas Artes.
Ivana Batchelor is a professional model and has represented her country in a minor international pageant. She was crowned by the outgoing queen Dania Guevara who represented Guatemala at the Miss Universe 2021 pageant held in Israel. Ivana couldn’t contain her joy when she was crowned. “I am very happy and grateful that I will be representing my country,” she said amidst the thunderous applause from the audience.
Guatemala is yet to win the Miss Universe crown. So far, it has only placed at the semifinals thrice: in 1955, 1984 and in 2010. The country continues to slide at the Big5 Ranking due to its dismal performance at major international pageants recently. In 2017, the country was ranked in the 62nd place. After the Miss World 2022 pageant, its rank dipped to 66th.
