Sheynnis Palacios, a 23-year-old 5’11” tall, mass communication student and volleyball player from Managua, became her country’s first-ever Miss Universe winner at the conclusion of a spectacular pageant held in El Salvador. She was crowned by the outgoing Miss Universe, R’bonney Gabriel of the United States, after defeating 83 other contestants.

Anntonia Porsild of Thailand was named as the first runner-up while Moraya Wilson of Australia was the second runner-up. Camila Avella of Colombia and Karla Guilfú of Puerto Rico made it to the Top 5. Miss El Salvador Isabella Garcia-Manzo, Miss Peru Camila Escribens, Miss Philippines Michelle Dee, Miss Spain Athenea Perez and Miss Venezuela Diana Silva made it to the Top 10 before being eliminated.
The Miss Universe 2023 pageant is for the history books as married women and women with children are allowed to compete for the first time. Furthermore, Erica Robin of Pakistan is the first Miss Universe contestant from her country and she became one of the 20 semifinalists. Meanwhile, Marina Machete of Portugal is the first transgender to make it to the semis of Miss Universe.
