Slim pickings is the best way to describe the Miss World Philippines 2022 pageant and this could make the job of anyone trying to predict the results way easier. The competition has whittled down into a tug of war between Miss Makati City Ashley Montenegro and Miss Negros Occidental Gwendolyne Fourniol.
Ashley is the daughter of Miss World 1994 Top 10 semifinalist Caroline Subijano. Her tall figure and mile-long legs are definitely from her mother’s genes. Gwendolyne meanwhile is a French Filipina beauty who banks on her pageant experience. This is her second attempt to conquer the Miss World Philippines competition.
However, Gwendolyne Fourniol has a bit of an edge and she checks all the boxes. The core members of Missosology predict that she will be the next Miss World Philippines. She’s an all-around contestant with a lovely singing voice, a beauty that can turn heads, a well-proportioned body and above all, she’s passionate about her charity project that focuses on providing children with equal access to education. She is the contestant that the Miss World is looking for and sending her to any other pageant would be a shame.
Ashley Montenegro meanwhile, is best suited for Miss Supranational. She was trained by a top notch training camp and it is of little wonder why she exudes finesse and elegance onstage. Her lithe figure will become an instant hit in Poland and her interview prowess will assure her a front runner position.
For the Miss Reina Hispanoamericana 2022 pageant, the best woman that the Philippines can send is no other than Miss Albay Paula Ortega. The Spanish Filipina beauty can speak fluent Castilian Spanish and although that is not a requirement, it will be her extra edge once she competes in Bolivia this October.
Miss Cebu Maria Gigante on the other hand will do great at Miss Eco. However, it must be emphasized that the current Miss Eco, Kathleen Paton, is from the Philippines. While it is not improbable, a back-to-back win is unlikely.
Dark horses can’t be discounted come Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena but there’s not much options for Miss World Philippines. Sure, a surprise victory of an underrated candidate may create a stir and provide us with a Cinderella-like story but it’s something the organization can’t afford. If the Philippines wants to shine at Miss World and Miss Supranational pageants, it must focus on these two stellar contestants: Makati City and Negros Occidental.
