The candidates of the 65th Miss Universe pageant took part in the Mindanao Tapestry Show held Thursday, January 19 at SMX Convention Center, SM Lanang Premier in Davao City.

Advocating women empowerment, the show featured proud Mindanao tribeswomen whose weaving tradition dates back hundreds of years ago.

Fashion designer Renee Salud, who headed the show, expressed gratitude for the show’s success, adding that seeing his collection on a global stage is “a dream come true”.

The candidates also wore the creations of Silverio Anglacer, Emi Englis, Kenny Lagada, Alfonso “Boy” Guinoo, Aztec Barba, Benjie Panizales, Dojie Batu, Edgar Buyan, Wilson Limon, and Egay Ayag.

Special awards were given at the conclusion of the show. Miss Philippines Maxine Medina was named Hiyas ng Phoenix. Miss Indonesia Kezia Warouw bagged Miss Phoenix Smile, while Miss Venezuela Mariam Habach was awarded Miss Phoenix. Missosology.Org; Photos from SunStar Davao
