The first pre-pageant activity of the 65th Miss Universe competition kicked off in Boracay Island on Saturday, January 14.

At least 16 candidates were chosen to go to the island: Miss Argentina, Miss Australia, Miss Belize, Miss Chile, Miss Costa Rica, Miss Ecuador, Miss Guyana, Miss Malta, Miss Mexico, Miss Myanmar, Miss Namibia, Miss Nicaragua, Miss Poland, Miss Turkey, Miss US Virgin Island, and Miss Honduras.

They were warmly welcomed by locals at the Geodofredo Ramos Airport in Caticlan within an hour’s flight from Manila and 15-minute boat ride to Shangri-la Boracay Resort and Spa.

Apart from a swimwear photo shoot, the delegates tried dragon boat-rowing, weaving and fishnet-making in the style of local indigenous Ati culture.

Private sponsors headed by former Ilocos Sur governor Luis Chavit Singson and Solar Entertainment were joined by Malay town mayor Ciceron Cawaling, and Department of Tourism assistant secretary Ricky Alegre. Missosology.Org; Photos from 65thmissuniverse.com, msuonetc.com
