Vanessa Ponce de León of Ciudad de México bagged the Miss Mexico 2018 title during the finals held May 5 in Hermosillo, Sonora.
The 25-year-old professional model bested more than 30 candidates for the crown and the right to wear the Mexico sash at the 2018 Miss World finals to be held in China. She was crowned by outgoing queen Andrea Meza, who was first princess in last year’s Miss World pageant.
Minerva Luna of Quintana Roo finished first runner-up while Diana Romero of Sinaloa was second runner-up. The rest of the Top 5 were Maria Malo (Estado de Mexico) and Ivonne Hernandez (Michocan).
In 2014, Ponce won Mexico’s Next Top Model Cycle 5, beating former Miss World Mexico titleholder Mariana Berumen. She holds a degree in international commerce from the Universidad de Guanajuato. She works in a school named Nenemi that provides intercultural education to indigenous people. Missosology.Org
