Jihan Demack, a half-Tanzanian, half Lebanese beauty will be Tanzania’s representative at the Miss Universe 2016 pageant. She will soon fly to Manila, the Philippines where the finals is set on January 30, 2017 (5 am Manila Time).
For Jihan, her victory at Miss Universe Tanzania is a testament that persistence is a key to success. In 2014, she was crowned Miss Ilala and then competed at Miss Tanzania 2014. She fell short and settled for a runner-up position. Her failure to win the title strengthened her resolve seek the crown and glory on other pageants.
Tanzania first participated at the Miss Universe contest in 2007. The country’s contestant, the ever-popular Flaviana Matata, made a good showing by landing in the Top 10. Ever since then, Tanzania found it difficult to gain the nod of the judges and is still waiting for another beauty to put the country back in the Miss Universe map.
