Sofia Marilù Trimarco was crowned the new Miss Universe Italy during the finals held August 25 at the Cinecittà World in Rome.

The 20-year-old law student from Buccino bested 39 other aspirants for the title and the right to represent the European nation at the 2019 Miss Universe pageant.

“I would like to bring the name of my Buccino all over the world. Promoting its historical and cultural greatness through the world of beauty is my goal,” Trimarco was quoted by Italian press.

The winners of special awards were: Laila Buonani (Miss Universe Wella), Linda Taddei (Miss Universe Lauretana), Francesca Servetti (Miss Universe Nakai), Tea Scafarto (Miss Universe Sicily by Car a), Krizia Moretti (Miss Universe Cinecittà World), Nicole Falso (Miss Universe Lara Roggi Atelier), and Maria Laura De Vitis (Miss Universe Mediaseven).
