Sal García, the representative of Maimon, won the Miss República Dominicana 2016 title during a Sunday night pageant held in the capital city of Santo Domingo. The event was presented by Magnolia Kasse y Miralba Ruíz. A total of 28 candidates participated in the pageant.
This year is very significant to the Miss República Dominicana pageant as it is already on its 60th year. Under the management of Megaly Febles, the pageant has produced a Miss Universe – in 2003 – when Amelia Vega was proclaimed as the best in the world. Meanwhile, Ada Aimee de la Cruz in 2009 almost won the crown when she finished as first runner-up. Last year’s delegate, Clarissa Molina, was among the top 10.
Sal García, on top of her right to represent the Dominican Republic at Miss Universe 2016 pageant, also won a total of 250, 000 pesos of prizes including wardrobe and swimsuit sponsorships.
