Toshami Calvin, 26, will carry the Jamaican banner in the upcoming 71st Miss Universe pageant which will be held next year. The behaviour technician from St. Thomas was crowned in a glittering ceremony held at Grand Ballroom of the AC Hotel by Marriott Kingston. Rachel Silvera was named as the first runner-up while Shanique Singh is the second runner-up.
Toshami has a Bachelor’s Degree in health science from the University of Central Florida. She has also worked with children who has autism. Apparently, beauty queens run in the family of Toshani as she is the first cousin of Miss World 2019 Toni Ann Singh. It will be quite an uphill battle for her at Miss Universe though. No Jamaican has ever won the crown yet. The country is currently ranked 30th at the Big5 Ranking.
