It’s time to focus our attention to the Miss Universe Iceland 2017 pageant! The participation of Hildur Maria Leifsdottir at Miss Universe 2016 which was held in Manila, the Philippines earlier this year, marked the comeback of Iceland at the Miss Universe pageant after six-year hiatus. Iceland is really struggling at Miss Universe although in 1962, Anna Geirsdóttir finished as first runner-up to Argentina’s Norma Nolan. It is the highest placement of Iceland to date at Miss Universe.

The regular participation of Iceland at Miss Universe ended in 1997 and since then it made brief comebacks in 2006 and 2009. Many analysts hoped that the Top 15 finish of Ingibjörg Raghnheidur Egilsdottir in 2009 will somehow make Iceland a regular participant at the pageant. Alas, it was only in the 65th Miss Universe that the country to decided to make a serious comeback.

This year, the organizers are really serious to make an impact.
