The Gambling Capital of the World will host the Miss Universe 2017!
“We’re thrilled to announce that #MissUniverse will be airing LIVE from Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, November 26, on FOX. Host Steve Harvey is set to return for the show,” posted the Miss Universe Organization in its official Facebook page. It was posted sometime around noon of September 28 (EST).
Rumors had been swirling about the possible hosting of Hawaii and Arizona and the possibility that the 2017 edition could in fact be held in 2018. Miss Universe had technically skipped two years. Its 2014 edition was held in January 2015 and it 2016 edition was held in Manila earlier this year.

This will be the 6th time that Las Vegas will host the Miss Universe pageant. In 1991, Las Vegas was the venue of the pageant where Lupita Jones of Mexico captured her country’s first crown. It is also in Las Vegas – in 1996 – that Alicia Machado won her country’s 4th Miss Universe crown.
A repeat happened in 2010 at Las Vegas when Ximena Navarrete won Mexico’s second Miss Universe crown. In 2012, the hosting of the Dominican Republic was cancelled prompting the organizers to stage the competition once again in Las Vegas. Olivia Culpo of United States won.
In 2015, the biggest snafu on live television also happened in Las Vegas after host Steve Harvey mistakenly named Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutiérrez as Miss Universe 2015. The true winner of course was Pia Wurtzbach of the Philippines.
More than 70 countries have confirmed their participation in this year’s Miss Universe. Armenia, Cambodia, Laos and Nepal are expected to debut in the pageant. Steve Harvey will once again play as the host for the third time.
