The tourism minister of the Philippines has revealed that the Miss Universe organizers will arrive in Manila on June 9 to discuss the possibility of having a back-to-back hosting of the Miss Universe pageant. The Philippines hosted the 65th Miss Universe pageant earlier this year where Iris Mittenaere of France won.
An official announcement could be issued next month and judging from the current events, it looks like that this could push through. The Philippines is reeling from negative stories recently and hosting a beauty pageant could uplift the country’s image and bring back the tourists who shied away from the country. There are also talks that the country will host the Miss World 2018 pageant but no details has emerged.
The Philippines first hosted the Miss Universe pageant in 1974 where Amparo Muñoz of Spain won. In 1994, the Miss Universe returned and Miss India Sushmita Sen prevailed. The country is yet to host the Miss World pageant despite persistent rumors back in 2014 after Megan Young brought back the Philippines’ first ever Miss World crown.
