The Miss Earth pageant is planning for a virtual pageant this November, with the finals tentatively scheduled on November 8, according to a report on July 11.
“[T]his is our 20th edition, I really do not want to skip a year, ” Carousel Productions executive vice president Lorraine Schuck said in a report by Philippine Daily Inquirer’s Armin Adina.
Carousel, which has been producing the Miss Earth competition since 2001, is looking to take the “same route” as the recently concluded Miss Philippines Earth online competition, the report added.
Miss Philippines Earth is the first national pageant in the Philippines to push through amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Aside from the virtual finals, all of the pre-pageant activities were also done virtually and remotely, including the all-important pre-judging segments (beauty of figure, beauty of face and poise, and intelligence).
“We believe that with technology, it is doable. So we decided to go through with it,” Schuck said.
With around 90 expected delegates for the Miss Earth pageant, the report added that Miss Earth is “planning a two-month contest season, which will start in the first week of September. Preliminary activities will be held separately in four groups according to time zones.”
The Covid-19 pandemic has been forcing pageant organizations to shift business plans. Japan-based Miss International in June announced the cancellation of its 2020 competition. Missosology.Org
