Elena Castro Suarez was crowned Miss Belgium 2019 during the finals held January 12 at Plopsaland De Panne.
The 19-year-old from Antwerp, who has Belgian-Spanish roots, received the crown from last year’s winner Angeline Flor Pua.
“I’ve been dreaming of this crown from a very early age. Now it is reality,” Castro Suarez was quoted by HLN.
Elodie Duchesne placed first runner-up, while Aline Elsermans finished second runner-up. Michelle Vermeersch, Julie Boone and Melissa Ghysels rounded out the Top 6. A total of 29 candidates competed for the title.
Miss Belgium organizer Darline Devos said the winner of Miss Belgium usually goes to Miss World. “She (Castro Suarez) has the qualities to compete at the Miss World. It depends on the dates. Elodie Duchesne can also be sent to Miss Universe,” she said,
Belgium had a successful run in Miss Universe and Miss World last year after its representatives both made it to the semifinals. Angeline Flor Pua was a Top 30 finalist in Miss World in China, while Zoé Brunet placed in the Top 20 of Miss Universe in Thailand.
