The Miss US International 2020 finals pushed through on June 26 in Florida despite the threat of the Covid-19 pandemic, with South Carolina’s Maritsa Platis winning the top plum.

The public health major from North Myrtle Beach bested 20 other candidates for the title and the right to represent the United States at the 60th Miss International beauty pageant to be held next year in Japan.

Also crowned in the same event were Miss US Landscapes International 2020 Erika Turner of Louisiana and Miss US Tourism International 2020 Caroline Dixon of Florida. The delegates from the Southern States and Michigan placed first and second runners-up, respectively.

Platis is involved with many organizations across South Carolina, including the American Red Cross, and Children’s Miracle Network. One day she aspires to pursue a career as a Pediatric neonatologist.

The United States has won the Miss International crown thrice: in 1974, 1978, and 1982. The country ranks first in Missosology’s Big5 ranking. Missosology.Org; Photos from Instagram
