Maria Otulau Aholelei from Nukalofa was crowned the new Miss Earth Tonga on July 13, earning her the right to represent the Polynesian kingdom in the next edition of the Miss Earth pageant.
“Words can’t begin to explain how thankful I am,” she said in a Facebook post after the crowning.
Aholelei receieved the crown from Miss Earth Tonga 2014 Sicilia Makisi. The coronation was held during the Miss Samoa NSW pageant.
“Our purpose and platform is to raise awareness regarding environmental issues affecting our Pacific Island Nations. This year, Miss Earth Tonga will be bringing that message to Miss Earth in the Philippines,” said national director Lavashe Couture.
Last year, Diamond Langi made history as the first from Tonga to make it to the Miss Earth semifinals. Missosology.Org
