Thirty beautiful women from across India converged in Mumbai’s Yashraj Studios Sunday night hoping to clinch the coveted Femina Miss India 2017 title and the right to represent India at the Miss World 2017 pageant. Each contestant is representing various Indian states from the northern state of Jammu and Kashmir to the sprawling southern state of Tamil Nadu and it concluded with Haryana’s Manushi Chhillar being crowned by outgoing Miss World India 2016 Priyadarshini Chatterjee.
Sana Dua from Jammu and Kashmir is second while Bihar’s Priyanka Kumari is third. Making it to the top 15 are Licha Thosum of Arunachal Pradesh, Rody H Vanlalhriatpuii of Mizoram, Triveni Barman of Assam, Navpreet Kaur of Punjab, Aditi Hundia of Rajasthan, Audrey D’silva of Goa, Maira Chowdhury of Delhi, Mannat Singh of
Kerala and Swathi Muppala of Karnataka.
Manushi Chhillar, born to doctor parents, listed dancing, painting, singing, poetry and writing as her hobbies. She studied in St. Thomas School in Delhi and Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women in Sonepat.
Miss World 2016 Stephanie Del Valle of Puerto Rico sat as one of the members of the jury which included Bollywood stars Arjun Rampal, Bipasha Basu, fashion designer Manish Malhotra, Abhishek Kapoor, Vidyut Jammwal and Ileana D’Cruz. The 30 contestants were mentored by Neha Dhupia, Waluscha De Sousa, Dipannita Sharma and Parvathy Omanakuttan. For the finals night they donned a traditional costume designed by Manish Malhotra.
India which boasts five Miss World titles, worked hard this year to select its representative as the Femina Miss India scoured all 30 states to select the best among thousands of hopeful women.
