The first Miss Earth Northern Marianas pageant was held June 22 in the Hyatt Regency Saipan Ballroom with Leisha Deleon Guerrero winning the crown.
The 19-year-old Northern Marianas College sophomore will represent the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands in the next edition of the Miss Earth competition. She also bagged the lion’s share of special awards: People’s Choice Earth Warrior, Best in Native Costume, Best in Swimsuit and Best in Evening Gown.
“I would like to fight for the sustainability of the Marianas and as well as advocating for the concerns regarding the military buildup plans in the CNMI,” Guerrero was quoted by Marianas Variety.
Her elemental court included Pheona David (Miss Air), Jan Zowie Cruz (Miss Water), and Katherine Johnson (Miss Fire).
Other special awards went to Mary Joyce Masongsong (Miss Earth Exquisite Star, Miss Earth Friendship), Phoena David (Miss Earth Environmental) and Jan Zowie Cruz (Miss Earth Photogenic).
