Donegal native Layla Doherty was crowned as Miss Earth Ireland 2023 in a pageant held at at G Hotel in the city of Galway. The 21 year old model and student from Atlantic Technological University will represent Ireland at the Miss Earth pageant which will be held in Vietnam later this year.
“I wasn’t expecting to win it, as there was such a high calibre of girls from across the country,” confessed Layla. She beat 20 other contestants during the pageant. “It was so great to be a part of. They really looked after it and we got a lot out of it. I really didn’t think it was going to me be, so it was such a shock,” she added.
No Irish woman have ever won the Miss Earth title. Ireland is currently ranked 33rd at the Big5 Ranking. Last year, Miss Earth Ireland Alannah Larkin made it to the Top 20.
