The Miss República Dominicana Universo organization on September 28 appointed Kimberly Jiménez as the new Miss República Dominicana Universo.

The 23-year-old model and actress, who placed first runner-up in last year’s contest, will represent the Caribbean nation in the next edition of the Miss Universe pageant.

A special coronation ceremony is scheduled for October 1. She succeeds last year’s winner Clauvid Dály, who placed in the Top 20 of Miss Universe 2019.

“We made the decision to send a representative even when the current conditions caused by Covid-19 are not the best,” the organization said in a statement. “…Miss Universe contest is scheduled to take place, and the Dominican Republic cannot be left out of the competition, that is why we have made this effort so that the country benefits from the publicity it receives internationally where around 200 countries will broadcast the Miss Universe.”

Jiménez was born to a Dominican father and a Puerto Rican mother. In 2017, she competed in Miss Universe Puerto Rico and finished second runner-up. She represented La Romana in last year’s Miss República Dominicana Universo pageant.

The Dominican Republic won Miss Universe in 2003 with Amelia Vega. It currently ranks 31st in Missosology Big5 Ranking. Missosology.Org; Photos from Miss República Dominicana Universo page
