Khephra Sylvester was crowned Miss Miss British Virgin Islands 2017 on August 6 at the Multipurpose Sports Complex.
Sylvester, 24, won Miss Intellect and Best Interview, but thought she was out of the running for the title. She eventually walked away with the crown and the chance to represent the islands in Miss World and Miss Universe.
At first, I was a little worried [that I would not win]. I was a little nervous, but the judges’ decision touched me when they said ‘Contestant #6,” Sylvester was quoted by bvinews.com.
“I probably think that my consistency is what helped me to win this title, because I only won two segments. I would assume that I was consistent in the others – high enough to put me to the top.”
Meanwhile, two contestants tied for the first runner-up position: Helina Hewlett and Ayana Phillip. Lean Francis finished second runner-up.
Hewlett bagged the Best Talent, Best Evening Wear, Best Cultural and Historical Costume, and the Miss Photogenic awards. Philip, on the other hand, took home Best Swimwear and Most Poised.
Genesis Richards won Miss Congeniality and Miss Popularity, while Tecora Morgan did not finish the competition due to illness. Missosology.Org
