Just four days after winning the title, Fatima-Zahra Khayat had to reliquish the Miss Universe Morocco 2021 title after suffering an accident.

Kawtar Benhalima, who finished first runner-up at the Miss Universe Morocco 2021 contest on November 6, took over the title. A handover ceremony was held in Casablanca on November 10.

Benhalima, a 22-year-old business administration graduate, will now represent the country at the 70th edition of the Miss Universe competition in Eilat, Israel in December, which will mark Morocco’s return to the Miss Universe stage after 43 years.

“We are really sad to announce that [Khayat] will be renouncing her title as Miss Universe Morocco by medical dispensation due to an accident and her disability to represent the country in optimal conditions in the coming weeks,” the organization posted on its Instagram account.

Morocco’s last participated in Miss Universe in 1978. It currently ranks 140th in Missosology Big5 Ranking. Missosology.Org
