The 27 year-old doctor from Barefield, Ennis, County Clare emerged from a field of 37 finalists and took the prestigious crown and title. She also earned the right to represent Ireland at the Miss World pageant. A graduate of University College Cork, Ivanna McMahon did her internship on cardiology and neurology at the Cork University Hospital. The finals of Miss Ireland pageant was held at Diamond Jubilee Ceremony at The Royal Theatre Castlebar, County Mayo. Jasmine Gerhardt was named as the first runner-up while Katie O’Connor is the second runner-up.
The Miss Ireland pageant started in 1947 and is perhaps the most prestigious pageant in the country. Some of its notable winners include Gladys Anne Waller (Miss World 1965 2nd runner-up), Siobhan McClafferty (Miss World 1990 first runner-up) and of course Miss World Rosanna Davison. Ireland is currently ranked 34th at the Big5 Ranking.
