Iana Tickle Garcia, representing Northwest, was crowned Miss Universe Jamaica 2019 during the finals held August 31 at the National Arena in Kingston.

The 19-year-old model from Montego Bay bested 17 other candidates for the right to represent the Caribbean island nation at the 2019 Miss Universe competition. She also bagged the Best in Evening Gown award.

“I’m feeling so ecstatic, excited and happy right now,” Garcia was quoted by Buzz Caribbean. “I want the youth to get more involved in the Jamaican society and contribute to the country. They feel as if they are voiceless, but they can make a difference.”

Toni-Ann Lalor and Siân Graham Connolly placed first and second runners-up, respectively. Sasha Henry, Aiysha Hemmings, and Chevonne Beadle rounded out the Top 6.

Imani Jenkins was awarded Best in Swimwear, while Umeko Chin was named Miss Photogenic. Laylor took home the Miss Congeniality title, while Henry won People’s Choice, Altruism award, and Essence of Style award.

Since 2010, Jamaica made it to the Miss Universe semis four times, bagging runner-up honors in three occasions. The country, however, has yet to win the crown. Missosology.Org; Photos from Miss Universe Jamaica page, Buzz Caribbean
