Elena Correa, the first runner-up in last year’s Miss Costa Rica pageant, will represent the country in the 2017 Miss Universe competition after the franchise holder decided not to hold the national pageant this year, reports La Nacion.
René Picado, the president of Teletica, has confirmed that the TV network will not be producing the Miss Costa Rica pageant for 2017 due to complications in its broadcast schedule for the second half of the year.
Teletica holds the Miss Costa Rica franchise for Miss Universe.
“Elena es una muchacha muy linda, educada, culta, agradable, estamos muy contentos de que sea ella quien nos represente (Elena is a very nice girl and educated, so we are very happy that she will be the one to represent us),” Picado said.
Meanwhile, Miss Costa Rica director Gabriela Alfaro said a casting call will be held in August for the pageant’s 2018 edition. She expects to hold the pageant early next year.
A gala dinner will also be held in August for Correa’s formal crowning as Miss Costa Rica 2017.
For her part, Correa promised to do her best and to make her fellow Costarricenses proud. Missosology.Org
