Chidimma Adetshina is a 23-year-old law student and works as a model. She was born in South Africa to a Nigerian father and a Mozambican mother and she was in fact a Miss South Africa 2024 contestant. Although she met all the eligibility requirements of the pageant, she had to withdraw after her citizenship was questioned. Chidimma was subjected to online abuse and xenophobia. Explaining her move to withdraw she said, “At first I ignored it, but as I progressed in the competition, the criticism started growing. I thought to myself, I am representing a country, but I don’t feel the love from the people I’m representing. I even asked myself, is it worth it?”
Since she has dual citizenship, the 5’7″ tall beauty decided instead to join the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 pageant representing Taraba State. She competed against 24 other contestants and was crowned in a glittering ceremony held at Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos. She hopes to become the first Nigerian woman to win the Miss Universe crown when she competes in Mexico this November.
