Caris Tiivel from Western Australia has been crowned Miss Universe Australia at a special event held at the Sofitel Hotel in Melbourne.

The 23-year-old model. who will now represent the Land Down Under in Miss Universe 2016, said after winning the title that she wants to raise awareness for depression and anxiety.

“I’m someone that has suffered from anxiety and depression in the past and a lot of people think you are always smiling, you are always happy all the time, there is nothing wrong with you,” she told the Herald Sun. “I would really like to support a cause like that, and provide some assistance to people who are going through a tough time.”

 

Elise Chambellant from Queensland finished first runner-up while Marijana Radmanovic from Victoria was second runner-up. The rest of the final five were Rose McEvoy from New South Wales and Jasmine Stringer from Queensland.

Tiivel inherited the crown from last year’s winner Monika Radulovic, who was a Top 5 finalist in Miss Universe 2015. Australia last won the Miss Universe crown in 20014 with Jennifer Hawkins. DF, Missosology.Org
