Bhasha Mukherjee was crowned Miss England 2019 during the finals held August 1 in Newcastle.
The 23-year-old junior doctor from Derby will head on to compete at the 2019 Miss World contest in December in London.
Domenique Fragale and Pratishtha Raut placed first and second runners-up, respectively.
“Some people might think pageant girls are airheads, but we all stand for a cause. We’re all trying to showcase to the world that actually just because we’re pretty, it doesn’t end there – we’re actually trying to use our reach and influence to do something good,” Mukherjee was quoted by The Sun.
Mukherjee speaks five languages (English, Bengali, Hindi, German and French), and has two medical degrees (medical sciences, and medicine and surgery). She grew up in India but moved to the UK at the age of nine.
