Former Miss World Mauritius Anne Murielle Ravina has been appointed as Miss Universe Mauritius 2021, the Miss Maurice Organization announced on August 29.

The 26-year-old political science graduate and art and design teacher from Rodrigues Island will represent the nation at the 70th Miss Universe competition in Eilat, Israel in December. She suceeded 2020 titleholder Vandana Jeetah.

“The Universe is calling,” Ravina posted on Instagram. “I wish to express my gratitude to the [Miss Maurice] organisation for this great opportunity. Heartfelt thanks to everyone who is supporting me throughout this new journey and those who have always been supportive and showed love and care.”

No stranger to pageants, Ravina represented Mauritius in Miss World 2018 in Sanya, China and placed in the Top 12. She was featured in CNN as an inspirational young woman in the African region, along with Miss Universe 2019, Miss Zozibini Tunzi from South Africa. She works with HERS, an organization that helps women heal from any forms of violence they have experienced. She is also an ambassadress for Rodrigues Island tourism.

“The Miss Maurice Organization has decided to appoint Murielle as the national representative so she can complete her training sessions in Mauritius and the USA before flying to Eilat,” the organization said in a statement. It added that due to the current pandemic situation, it “has concluded that it is best to conduct its national pageant in March 2022.”
