Anna Leitch was crowned Miss Northern Ireland 2021 during the finals held September 6 at the Europa Hotel in Belfast.

The 27-year-old primary school teacher from Cookstown bested 22 other aspirants for the title. She will now head on to compete at the 70th Miss World contest in December in Puerto Rico. She succeeded 2019 winner Lauren Leckey.

Ruth Armstrong and Bernadette Hagans placed first and second runners-up, respectively.

“I’ve always wanted this – as the competition went on I just was getting more and more into it and I had a real drive and passion and I really really want to become Miss Northern Ireland. It just feels so amazing and I’m still waiting for it to sink in a little bit but hopefully that will come in time,” Leitch was quoted by Belfast Live.

Leitch is studying for a masters in leadership at Queen’s University Belfast.
