Alina Luz Akselrad, a 22-year-old model and radio host from Cordoba, has been appointed as the new Miss Universe Argentina, earning her the right to represent the South America nation in the next edition of the Miss Universe competition.

The announcement was made on December 13 by national director Osmel Souza after the organization has decided not to mount a national contest this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Akselrad, who was a Top 7 finalist in last year’s Miss Universe Argentina (MUA) pageant, was chosen from a shortlist of three candidates that includes Julieta Garcia (MUA 2019 runner-up) and Aldana Masset (MUA Top 7 finalist).

She is no stranger to pageants as she previously represented Argentina at the 2018 World Miss Tourism Ambassador in Thailand where she was named World Miss Tourism Ambassador America. In 2017, she was crowned Miss Sudamerica in Lima, Peru.

Argentina won the Miss Universe crown in 1962 with Norma Nolan. The country currently ranks 24th in Missosology Big 5 Ranking. Missosology.Org
