Rachel Silvera, a 25-year-old beauty from Saint Mary, won the coveted Miss Universe Jamaica title in a glittering event attended by the reigning Miss Universe Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua. Rachel is a pharmacy student and hopes to become the first ever Jamaican beauty to win the Miss Universe crown come this November in Mexico City.
Interesting to note that despite being ranked as the 30th powerful nation in terms of beauty pageants, Jamaica is yet to win the Miss Universe crown. The highest placement of Jamaica was the first runner-up finish of Yendi Phillips in 2010. Other iconic Jamaican beauty queens at Miss Universe are Kaci Fennell who placed as 4th runner-up in 2014 and Davina Bennett who placed as 2nd runner-up in 2017.
