Carissa Yap, 22, is the new Miss Universe Singapore. She will represent is city state at the 71st Miss Universe pageant which will be held in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA in January next year. She succeeded Nandita Banna who made history last year by making it to top 16 breaking the decades old drought for Singapore. The last Singaporean to make it to the Miss Universe semis was Marion Nicole Teo and that was way back in 1987. Marion Nicole also sat as one of the judges.
Carissa Yap is a business student of National University of Singapore. She is also an alumna of Raffles Institution where she received distinctive honors. A total of 10 candidates participated in the pageant held at Alcove Caldwell House. Yvonne Sashirekha was named named as first runner-up while Denissia Li Xia Delangle was named second runner-up.
