Miss Earth New Zealand Nela Zisser bolted out the Miss Earth 2013 contest after it was reported that she suffered from food poisoning. She posted in her Facebook account that she was sick for four days and is now heading home. The post has long since been deleted.
An insider at the New Zealand pageantry scene told Missosology that Nela Zisser was only handpicked after the original winner backed-out. The franchise of Miss Earth is now under new management as Miss World NZ dropped the franchise last year. It was also revealed that Nela doesn’t have much experience in international pageantry.
Cases of food poisoning is prevalent in international pageants. In Miss Universe 2009 for example, Miss Turks and Caicos Jewel Sever also calls it quits citing food poisoning. Many contestants who are not careful in choosing their foods or are quite adventurous trying foods that are alien to them ended up with stomach problems. Or worse some ended up in hospitals.
