“It was a long journey, getting here, winning the crown. Not just fulfilling my childhood dream, but also making the country proud.”
These were the words of Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach when she spoke at the special tribute show held Sunday, January 22, at the Harbor Garden Tent of the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila.
Titled “Queen of the Universe”, the musical showed Pia’s journey as a girl who dreams of becoming a beauty queen portrayed by theater actress Polly Cabrera. It also featured key people in the Filipina beauty queens’ life, including her mom Cheryl Alonzo Tyndall and Aces & Queens’ Jonas Gaffud among others.
“Everything that you saw during the play was true. Even the part where I overdrank the whey protein, and I got overweight. It’s true!” Pia said when called on stage after the presentation.
“I hope you guys were inspired by my story. I hope that whoever you are… if you have a dream, you hold on to that dream. Because you’ll never know when that dream could come true. Because that’s what I did, and it happened to me. And I know that it can also happen to you.”
