Cheryl Chou was crowned Miss Universe Singapore 2016 on Sunday, beating 14 other candidates for the right to represent the city state in Miss Universe.

Chou, a 20-year-old student from Lasalle College of the Arts, sealed her fate during the final Q&A round.

Asked what was the essence of a Singaporean woman, Chou talked of confidence, bravery and being “unafraid of failure” because it is “important for growth”.

Tanisha Khan and Sonya Branson finished first and second runners-up, respectively.
